An amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act for 2023 would have the U.S. Navy serving more vegan plant based foods in some military bases with pilot program that will study the cost effectiveness of storing meat, compared to plant based foods. The troops are asking for more plant based options as well so it's nice to see the troops not being ignored. The Department of Defense will be studying the cost effectiveness of storing meat vs plant based and see how many eat plant based. Not having plant based options available literally turns away some from wanting to join the military.

And when you hear "Support the Troops" from some Republicans, consider some of them like Chip Roy opposed this calling it "woke" which is misleading considering thousands of years of human history many militaries had more plant based foods than today, Roman soldiers fighting for The Roman Empire ate a lot of beans and plant based foods, walking long distances was not practical to bring lots of meat. And the health benefits of eating plant based compared to the health problems of eating meat should be considered, as somebody who has health problems from eating meat would be a risk on the battlefield.
