When Justin Trudeau opposed a policy passed by the Liberal Party I was surprised. He opposed his own party to do the right thing opposing an undemocratic anti-disinformation policy which is something you would expect in the old Soviet Union, or in Russia and other authoritarian countries to control any criticism of the state. It's kind of shocking the policy was even attempted to being passed should make people realize there is a legitimate potential threat to our freedoms. Media is important in democracy. Really rich companies can afford to give news media a little slice of the profit they made for the work they do for democracy since they take so much for themselves. Doesn't sound like such a bad idea with the widening gap of the super rich and not rich.

Trudeau has been criticized for Bill C-18, it wants to make big companies who make money from content created by news media, to give news media bargaining ability to get something when Facebook shows news articles. The language of the bill itself mentions that, it's not like the old drafts. This is more of something that can be worked with, it's not that bad and has potential to benefit Canadians by ensuring Canadian media continue to exist in affording to give people content by actually getting paid. We have to remember at the end of the day Bill C-18 does not tell Meta or other big tech companies to stop showing content, if they stop showing news content on Facebook, it's not the government's fault. I was highly skeptical about Bill C-18 before but after actually reading enough of it I got the sense it wasn't as bad as it could have been if it didn't receive criticism as the bill progress into what it is today.

Ceawe News would not apply for being an official media source being able to get that money because it's just me writing articles and it's not making money to pay anyone. I would not benefit from Bill C-18, I made like 20 cents the other month from Google Ads from over a thousand people reading news articles I shared on Reddit, usually very few people even read any news articles. Mainstream media obviously isn't making a whole lot more either with those rates and so many people using Ad Block software, even if they got a special rate that's not a whole lot. No wonder more and more media companies have sold themselves to bigger giants, lots of people like to say that a handful of media companies own a majority of popular media, which is true, but people need to support media, which is important in democracy. You want media sources being able to feed themselves and pay their bills to keep giving you more. Conspiracy theories like to talk about how some corporations own most media, but fail to be part of the solution, people tip servers for giving them food, is it that hard to turn off adblock when reading news? Media brings you important information, even a broken clock will get it right once a while.
